Web design AND Advertising

I am a going to be a junior this year in school, and I am trying to start up my graphic design portfolio. What are some of the different elements that I should display? I was thinking of doing an add for sneakers, water, and showing how two of the same products would be advertised in different magazine (i.e Harper’s Bazaar and National Geographic) I was also thinking of doing an identity package. But what else should I do?? I really want to have it put together by January and I need some helpful tips and opinions. Thanx!

I would like to know the sites which provide the show the full saree designs that i can use to hand craft for the sarees.

I’m trying to teach myself various things related to web development. Starting with (X)HTML, PHP, web servers etc. What are some ideas I can use to put these things in practice? What do most people do with this as they begin to learn it?

I am thinking of having Linux as my developer OS, but i dont know what distribution to install?
Primarily, i need gcc compiler, PHP MYSQL and Apache..
I program C scripts as well as web applications.
Can someone more experienced on Linux suggest me the best distribution that meets my needs. Thanks guys!

I am thirteen and living in Kansas. I am very interested in starting in graphic design and possibly making a career out of it, how should i start?

I would like to start a logo design company (just me) from home so I can look after my wee daughter while earning enough money so I don’t need to return to work.

Local is good, but it’s not the be-all and end-all, overseas custom is just as much appreciated.

I work for a 13 man web development company in the Midwest. I was recently moved into marketing under an inept manager. She withholds information and is not a team player. I love the company and the rest of the people I work with and would like to be an asset to the company. I don’t have a lot of experience in marketing… What can I do to drum up business?
